Coronavirus restrictions force events to modify ticket sales, cancel

New restrictions put in place by Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam will limit the number of people who may attend the upcoming Fredericksburg Holiday Craft Show.

The new restrictions Northam put in place capped the number of people who can gather for indoor events to 250.

David Kerper, the show’s promoter, provided details about the show in an email.

A ticket is needed to enter the Holiday Craft Show on December 4-5-6.  Due to Covid Regulations the Fredericksburg Expo Center will not have tickets for sale in the box office. All tickets to enter are only available online and due to capacity limitations, tickets will be sold in time slots. The Time Slot you choose is your time to attend and shop.  Your ticket, however is good any time you arrive to the show if you miss your selected time but there could be a potential delay to enter.  Masks are required to be worn at all times.

The restrictions put in place are making it more difficult for show organizers to host events. This week, one of the largest gun shows in the area decided to cancel its event at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly when Fairfax Circuit Court Judge Brett Kassabian ruled the event must adhere to a 250-person gathering limit.

Show organizers likened their event to any other large store, like a Walmart or Home Depot. Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring saw it differently, noting gun shows are places where people stop and congregate while most visitors to big-box stores shop and leave.

The gun show organizers chose to suspend their upcoming show rather than appeal the judge’s decision.

A total of 2,544 new coronavirus cases have been reported by the state department of health today. A total of 72 of the state’s 8.5 million residents are hospitalized with the disease, and there have been 18 new deaths reported today.
