- Brown performed the Heimlich maneuver on the unidentified student which cleared his throat, allowing him to breathe.
The Stafford Board of Supervisors commended the two at its October 15 meeting.
- The awards were presented by George Washington District Supervisor Tom Coen.
- Along with framed copies of the proclamation, both recipients were given recognition coins by the Sheriff’s Department.
- Aiden also received a junior Sheriff’s badge after expressing a desire to one day become a law enforcement officer.
After the presentation, Deputy Brown related a story that happened after the choking event when he asked Aiden how he knew to come to him in that instance.
- “Kids just know about things like that, ” said Aiden.
Brown, a retired Prince William police officer, was hired as part of the School Protection Program which was created by the Sheriff’s Department last year to provide protection for students.
