Potomac Local’s very own Susie Webb will represent Virginia at the 2019 Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference.
Webb, who is also a student at Stafford High School, will receive a $1,000 college scholarship in addition to attending the conference in Washington, D.C. June 14 – 20.
This program was created to honor Al Neuharth, founder of USA TODAY, the Freedom Forum and the Newseum, for his long and distinguished career in journalism and his free spirit.
The conference will take place at the Newseum, which is dedicated to free expression and the five freedoms of the First Amendment.
During the conference, Web will attend sessions with media professionals and news executives. She will also have the opportunity to visit some of the most important sites in Washington, D.C.
As a requirement of the conference, Webb will be expected to cover the conference as a journalist and write an article or produce a segment for her school newspaper and here at Potomac Local.
Webb joined our team as a freelance general assignment reporter last fall. She is also the assistant editor at The Smoke Signal, the student newspaper of Stafford High School.
