MANASSAS — Shovels should be ready to hit the dirt in June for the groundbreaking of Manassas’s next fire station.
City fire chief Rob Clemons told members of the city council the final drawings for the $11 million, two-story building is under review and should be ready for council review in two weeks.
The project is slated to be put out for contractors to bid on April 9, with a winning contractor selected by May, said Clemons.
Work on the new building should begin this summer, and the fire department should take possession of the new building early next year.
The building will be located at 10306 Dumfries Road, just behind the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. In addition to storage bays for fire trucks and ambulances, the new station will also feature a classroom, kitchen, workout area, lounge, locker rooms, sleeping quarters, and offices.
The station will feature a new fire engine and an advanced life support ambulance, said Clemmons.
While the city runs its own fire and rescue operation separate from Prince William County, officials in the city, county, and the City of Manassas Park coordinate with each other over station numbers.
The Manassas Volunteer Fire Company operates at 9322 Centreville Road and the Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad station is located at 9322 Center Street. Station 21 will be the third fire station in the city.
