The building opened about five months behind schedule. County officials told us that contractor delays led to the later than the anticipated opening.
They also tell us they’re in the process of reviewing any damages that could be owed to taxpayers because of the delay. A contract’s liquidated damages clause state the county could be paid up to $2,000 per every day the building opened late, totaling more than $140,000.
County spokesman Jason Grant said county officials are still reviewing whether or not to act not he liquidated damages clause.
The new 54,000 square foot station will also house staff from the department’s criminal investigations division, as well as officers who will patrol the Dale City, Lake Ridge, and mid-county area along Davis Ford Road.
Construction for the new facility began in November 2015 and was briefly delayed last fall when a fire broke out on the building’s roof. The fire did not cause major damage.
