Tuesday is Primary Day in Virginia

Tuesday is the day Virginia voters go to the polls for the 2016 Presidential Primary Election.

On the ballot for the Democrats, Hillary Clinton, and Bernie Sanders are still in the running. Former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley will be on the ballot. However, he has dropped out of the race.

There once was a crowded field of Republicans vying to be the next President. but the number has fallen from 17 down to five. Ohio Governor John Kasich, Ben Carson, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, and Donald Trump.

Here’s the Democratic ballot and the Republican sample ballot. You’ll see more names on the ballot than there are candidates still in the race, so choose wisely.

Polls in Virginia will open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Some school divisions, including Stafford and Prince William counties, will be closed Tuesday so voters may go inside schools and cast their ballots.

Those who are 17 years old now but will be 18 on during the General Election on Nov. 8 may vote in the Primary if they already registered with the State Office of Elections.

And, because Virginia doesn’t require residents to register with a political party when they sign up to vote, anyone may vote in Tuesday’s Primary Election. However, voters may only vote for one person in one political party.
