HomeTowne becomes chartered, more little free libraries under construction

The Greater Prince William (GIMG_1757PW) Little Free Libraries project is continuing to thrive, as more libraries are under construction – managed by our partner Write by the Rails –  and little free libraries in the area are now becoming internationally chartered.

One of the first businesses to get involved with the initiative was HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire, with their car-shaped little free library on Route 1 in Woodbridge.

Yesterday they became internationally chartered by the organization that has popularized the little free libraries movement – Littlefreelibrary.org.

While it’s not required for a little free library in the area to be chartered to participate in the initiative we have partnered on with the Prince William Library Foundation, individuals are free to do so.

If you have already built a little free library, or would like to and join the GPW Little Free Libraries project, then there are some benefits to being chartered – including being listed on a map with little free libraries all over the world.

Like all chartered little libraries, the HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire little library is now emblazoned with a plaque that recognizes their involvement in the project.

“Putting the plaque on our little free library today was really exciting for us. We know that promoting a love of reading is so important to the residents in this community, and now we are part of an international network of little libraries with the same mission,” said HomeTowne owner ST Billingsley.

This interactive online map will allow you to find all of the little free libraries in our area that are participating in our initiative.

Let us know where you’re putting your own PW Little Free Library! Be sure to include the name, street address, town name, and zip code!

Also, post pictures of your library on the Library Foundation’s Facebook page.
