A 1995 Gradall self propelled crane was southbound in the right lane. A vehicle lost control on the wet roadway ahead of the crane. When the crane changed lanes to avoid its driver lost control and the crane overturned blocking the center and right lane.
The driver Dana R Gaddy, age 51 of Colonial Beach VA was transported to Stafford Hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The crash was investigated by Senior Trooper H. Jaime and no charges are anticipated.
Assisting Virginia State Police with the crash were Stafford County Fire and Rescue, along with VDOT and the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
As a result of the crash all but the left southbound shoulder had to be closed in order upright the crane and clean up fuel that was spilled. Some roadway repairs will need to be completed before all southbound lanes will be opened. All lanes are expected to be open at approximately 5:30 p. m.

All lanes on I-95 south in Stafford County are closed due to an overturned crane at mile marker 145 located just north of exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville). Traffic is getting by the crash site using the left shoulder.The crash has resulted in a diesel spill and significant damage to the pavement. Once the crane is upright, two lanes will remain closed until emergency repairs can be made to the pavement.DBI, VDOT’s interstate maintenance contractor, is mobilizing to begin patching the large ruts in the pavement caused by the crash. A hazmat team is onsite to evaluate the extent of the diesel spill.Motorists should expect major delays on I-95 south through the evening rush hour.
