A man barricaded himself and a child inside a room at a home in Manassas at on March 4.
Police said they went to the home in the 8700 block of Bretton Woods Drive, just off Liberia Avenue, at 8:40 a.m. to check on the welfare of the family who lived there. When officers arrived, they heard screaming and then entered the house, said Manassas police spokeswoman Adrienne Helms.
Inside, officers found two people who had been assaulted. The man who attacked the two then took a child and then barricaded himself into a room, said Helms.
Later, the uninjured child was safely handed over to officers. Then the suspect surrendered to police.
Jose A. Torres Flores, 40, is charged with malicious wounding and abduction, said Helms. He is due in court April 15.
Helms said the investigation into this case remains ongoing.
