In Downtown Manassas, a building on Battle Street that partially collapsed on Feb .14, was demolished.
The demolition of the building was handled by Old Town Landscaping, and completed last Friday.
The structure, which was located next to the old Washington Post offices and The Bone restaurant, lost a portion of its roof, which was caused by winds gusting more than 40 miles per hour that evening.
No one was in the section of the building that collapsed and there were no injuries, although 14 residents in close by apartments were evacuated for their safety, according to Patty Prince, the Manassas City spokeswoman.
Prince stated that the residents who were evacuated are no longer affected by the collapse.
“The residents who were evacuated that night were in an adjacent building. They were back in their apartments on Monday night and should no longer be affected,” said Prince.
The space is owned by the estate of George A. Roy, which is being managed by Robert M. Cooper Jr. of Cooper Law, according to a city spokeswoman. Several calls from Potomac Local to Cooper have went unreturned.
There is no word as to what building, if any, will take the collapsed building’s place.
