Dogs die in Woodbridge house fire after food left on stove

Two dogs died in a fire at a Woodbridge home Monday.

Here’s a report from OWL Volunteer Fire Department:

Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Firefighters responded to the report of a house fire at 14209 Chesterfield Drive in Woodbridge. Initial units arrived on scene within minutes and reported flames showing through the front door. Firefighters were met with a rapidly spreading fire from the kitchen throughout the entire first floor. Additional fire was located and extinguished in the basement. The fire was deemed under control within 20 minutes.

Fire & Rescue units from OWL VFD, Dale City VFD and PWC Department of Fire & Rescue, responded to the incident. No one was injured, however, two family dogs perished in the fire. Five occupants were displaced and Red Cross was called in to assist. The cause of the fire was determined to be food left on the stove according to the Prince William County Fire Marshal’s office.

The Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton VFD would like to reinforce the importance of closing the front door after evacuating your house during a fire. Leaving doors open allows more air to feed the fire and cause the fire to spread more rapidly.
