“Good Scout” award honors influential women
On October 22, the Boy Scouts of America will be holding their annual Prince William County ‘Good Scout’ Dinner to honor two local leaders, Ernestine Jenkins and Melissa Robson.
The dinner has been an annual event for the Boy Scouts in Prince William County to support their program as well as recognize individuals who distinguish themselves daily through living by the principles of scouting. Past recipients of this award include leaders in public office, business and philanthropy throughout the county. Mrs. Jenkins has been chosen to be our honoree on the eastern half of the county and Mrs. Robson has been chosen as our honoree on the western half.
Ernestine Jenkins, wife of Supervisor John D. Jenkins, is a citizen committed to service. Throughout her life, Mrs. Jenkins has strived to enhance every community she has been involved in.
While her husband was serving the country in the military, Mrs. Jenkins was active in many NCO and Officer Wives’ clubs and community organizations. In the 1970’s, Mrs. Jenkins began her service in the
Prince William community through the Dale City Civic Association and Prince William Schools. Mrs. Jenkins also began her political service at that time, holding numerous positions in the Prince William County Democratic Committee and other associated committees.
Mrs. Jenkins has also served as the Past President for VFW Post 1503 Ladies Auxiliary, Life member for American Legion Post 364 Ladies Auxiliary, Vice Chairman for Project Mend-A-House, a member of the Finance Committee for Bethel United Methodist Church, Past President of the Bel Air Woman’s Club, Board member for Literacy Volunteers for America and Board member for the Occoquan District BSA. Mrs. Jenkins is a community leader that has truly committed herself to the Prince William Area.
Melissa L. Robson is president of the Novant Health Northern Virginia market. Prior to coming to Northern Virginia she was chief operating officer at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury, North Carolina and president of Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center in Huntersville, North Carolina.
In addition, she was a key leader in overseeing the construction of the hospital in Huntersville. Robson received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Gardner Webb University and her masters of health administration from Pfeiffer University. Robson received the Leadership Novant Certificate of Achievement in 2007 from Novant Health/UNC School of Public Health. Since becoming
President of Novant Health Northern Virginia Market, she has worked to help bring new health facilities to the region with the Novant Health Haymarket Medical Center.
