Frederick Daniel Murray died right before midnight on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at his home in Lorton, Virginia, surrounded by family. Fred had a profound impact on those who loved him, and on many more who knew him. He had an amazing ability to see the humor in things and make people laugh with his stories, jokes, and distinct, infectious laugh. When asked what he wanted in his obituary, he wanted us to write “I told you I didn’t feel well…”
Fred is deeply missed by his loving wife, Carol (Verant) Murray; his daughters Kellie Padgett (and her husband Steve Padgett), Marianne “Mimi” Calogero (and her husband Chris Calogero), and Katrina “Katie” Inlow (and her husband Rich Inlow); and his grandchildren Emma Calogero, Nicholas Inlow, Nathan Inlow, Grace Calogero, Luke Inlow, Mary Calogero, Haven Padgett, Andrew Inlow, and Sean Padgett. Fred was preceded in death by his grandson, Samuel Inlow. Fred’s dog, Duchess, deeply misses him too. Fred’s family admired his practice to live life to its fullest and to “be true to your passion for what you want in life”.
Fred often told stories of a very happy childhood with loving parents and his loving sister, Jean Langham. Fred was born to Charles Frederick “Fred” and Winifred “Winnie” (Silke) on August 11, 1942 in Auburn, New York. He loved the community in Auburn and made several lifelong friends. He attended Eastern Michigan University where he met his wife of 45 years, Carol Verant. Their kids have always admired the beautiful relationship between Fred & Carol. Throughout the 45 years, Carol found Fred’s humor funny and giggled at his jokes every day.
Fred spent the first part of his career in medical sales and then left sales to partner with Carol to start an antique trunk restoration business. With tender, loving care, they renovated thousands of trunks that are now sitting in homes all around the world. Additionally, Fred’s stage presence in community theatre will not be forgotten.
Fred taught us all to love and laugh freely, and this world is a better place because of the beautiful imprint that he made on his wife, his children, his grandchildren, his sister, his nieces, his nephews, and many friends.
In lieu of sending flowers, Fred’s family hopes you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness or make someone laugh in his memory
