Road Repairs Reduce Rt. 631 to Single Lane

Drivers traveling on Rt. 631 (Coal Landing Road) in Stafford for the next two weeks may experience delays while repairs are being made to the road.

The work zone will be active from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Saturday, during which time only one lane will be accessible.

The project is scheduled to be complete by February 22, although snow and poor weather conditions may extend the project.

More information from a VDOT release:

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is stabilizing an embankment along Coal Landing Road, and re-paving a portion of the road. Specialized equipment, a soil nail launcher, will create a retaining wall by drilling holes beneath the roadway, and inserting steel rods into the ground. The rods are covered with a mesh wire net and anchored with bolts. The entire surface is then covered with shotcrete, a concrete material.

Work must be performed during daytime hours, when temperatures are warm enough for the concrete substance to properly set, holding the retaining wall in place.

Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone.

This work has been scheduled weather permitting, and inclement weather may extend the project schedule beyond Feb. 22.
