Margaurite H. Evans was born on November 3, 1944 to Albert Washington and Rosie V. Hardiman-Bryant in Leflore, Mississippi. At 69 years young, she was called home to be with the Lord on January 31, 2014 at Fairfax INOVA Hospital in Northern Virginia. Margaurite attended Reed Elementary School in Holcomb, Mississippi and later Wilkes Elementary School in Money, Mississippi. She graduated in 1964 from Amanda Elzy High School in Greenwood, Mississippi and was a member of the school choir. In 1965, Margaurite met and married Willie M. Evans and together they raised four children Larry, Gregory, Teresa, and Marcia.
Margaurite joined Saint Peter Baptist Church as a child, then Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church as a young adult and later Traveler’s Rest Baptist Church. After moving to Thibodaux, Louisiana with her son, Gregory, she joined the New Rising Sun Missionary Baptist Church under the guidance of Reverend Kenneth Jackson. She also served at the Vogelweh Air Force Base Chapel while living in Germany.
Margaurite was employed for many years with Rocky Manufacturing, Inc. as a seamstress and John P. Richards Designs in Home Decor. In 2002, she joined her daughter, Marcia, and her family in Kaiserslautern, Germany where she worked for the Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) as a customer service specialist in children’s apparel at the Vogelweh Exchange. Upon returning to the United States, she continued to work for AAFES at the Bolling Air Force Base Exchange in Washington D.C. In all her years of employment, Margaurite was recognized for her hard work and stellar performance. To all who knew her, she was a warm-hearted, sweet and generous person whose smile and loving spirit will always be remembered.
Margaurite was preceded in death by her son, Gregory and her youngest brother, Frederick. Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Larry (Lora) Evans of Greenwood, Mississippi; Teresa Evans-Whitker of Mesquite, Texas; and Marcia Evans-Cornell (Frederick) of Bristow, Virginia. Nana leaves to preserve her legacy seven grandchildren: Keiarra, Amina, Jakaylean, Aaliyah, Ahmad, Kiy, and Malachi. Margaurite is survived by her loving brothers and sisters: Maggie Bryant, Willie Charles, Dorothy Jean, Shirley Ruth, and Leroy. Other loving family members include her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and so many great friends in Greenwood and others she met in her travels throughout the world.
