A rare October tornado watch is in effect for our area this morning as a long line of thunderstorms approaches the region.

The remains in effect until 5 p.m. and includes Prince William and Stafford counties, and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms expected to impact the area today are the remnants of Tropical Storm Karen, which fell apart before it came ashore on the Gulf Coast over the weekend.

Today’s tornado watch comes after light rainy conditions were reported all morning airfields at Dulles, Manassas, Fort Belvoir, and Quantico.
