Man’s Apparent Self-Inflicted Gunshot Death Investigated

NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — The body of a man was found this afternoon lying in the yard of a house on Coopers Lane in North Stafford.

The unidentified adult male victim died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, and he was found by a teenager passerby that is said to have been friends with the son of the victim, according to witnesses on the scene.

Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy confirmed the shooting, and said it did not appear suspicious.

Emergency crews rushed to the area about 5 p.m., in the Patriot Landing neighborhood behind North Stafford Shopping Plaza, which is home to an Aldi grocery store and a Sport and Health Clubs gym. Witnesses were visibly in shock, as neighbors came outside of their homes and saw the body. Several hugged each other while others looked away in horror.

Ambulances and sheriff’s deputies cars lined Coopers Lane as officials conducted their investigation Thursday evening.
