Led by Local Talent, ‘Rising Starz’ Puts Feet on the Field

DALE CITY, Va. — It’s now midway through summer and high school football camps will soon be underway, and collegiate players are working out now in preparation for the upcoming season.

Before the season begins, a group of athletes native to Prince William County saw the need for sports camps that engage youth, and for camps that are led by talent that once played in the area. For Rickey Lewis, Chad Dunlap and Rasheed McClaude all, the product of their creativity and collaboration was “Rising Starz,” a speed and agility football camp set to take place Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21 at the Hylton Boys & Girls Club in Dale City.

“It’s time for former athletes from this area to invest in the future youth of our community, and express to them the importance of how you should give back to your community, much like we are trying to do,” said Lewis.

The focus point group of the camp is geared towards ages 6-14 and provides breakout activities within similar age divisions.

This initial camp called “The Rise” will be the first in a series the trio hopes to offer for community youth. Such talent as Clint Sintim, former New York Giants Linebacker, NFL Free Agent Eddie McGee, University of Virginia Defensive Tackle Donta Wilkins, Virginia Destroyers Linebacker Savion Frazier, and Woodbridge Senior High School Defensive End Da’Shawn Hand will be available during the camp to work with youth in attendance.

“We want to provide an outlet where collegiate and professional athletes can come back to their origin and share their experiences while giving back to the Prince William County community,” said Lewis.

The cost of camp is $25 to include both days. For more information contact Rasheed McClaude at 571-221-6909 or email at [email protected].
