PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — A drive through Prince William’s countryside today meant some drivers had to turn around.
Areas along Aden Road were flooded, and nearby Fitzwater Drive was closed to traffic completely as Cedar Run spilled over its banks.
Police were on scene where roads were closed, and orange signs were posted at all other places high water was causing headaches for drivers.
Some drivers who braved driving through flood waters on Aden Road, especially those with cars that ride lower to the ground, pulled to the side of the road after crossing the water. On some cars, white smoke could be seen billowing from their tailpipes. Other drivers simply turned around and went the other way.
The the sun peaked from behind the clouds just before 4 p.m. Friday for the first time in almost 24 hours, the high water in the area stem from heavy rains that fell across the area during the overnight and early morning hours on Friday.
In Prince William County, police closed several roads Friday morning and urged drivers to find another way to get where they were going.
