2 Roommates Handcuffed, Assaulted

DALE CITY, Va. — Three people who are all roommates and work together at a private security firm are now talking to police after two of them — a man and woman — were handcuffed and assaulted.

Police said the three people involved in this case live at a home in the 13600 block of Kingsman Road in Dale City, and that the male and female victims were handcuffed by their roommate after getting into an argument over something that happened at the workplace, according to police. The victim kicked the male victim while he was handcuffed, police added.

Both victims were released from the handcuffs about 30 minutes after they were bound and suffered minor injuries, according to police. The incident happened during the overnight hours of June 23, and police arrested the suspect in this case on July 8 following an investigation.

James Stephens Cottingham II, 27, is charged with abduction and assault and battery, police said. He was held without bond.
