A fire broke out in the attic of a one-story home near Brooke Point High School about 3:20 p.m. today.
It happened during the height of a severe thunderstorm that was moving through the area.
“It was reported as a lightning strike, but that has not been confirmed,” said Stafford fire and rescue Asst. Chief Mark Doyle.
No one was inside the one and a half story house when flames erupted, and no firefighters were injured as they worked to extinguish the fire.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

STAFFORD, Va. — Trees are reported down on U.S. 1 between Layhill and Butler roads, and that has prompted the closure of that portion of the four-lane highway.
Also, a fire on the roof of a building is reported in the 1700 block of Courthouse Road in Stafford, at Brooke Point High School.
Volunteers at Falmouth Fire Department in Stafford County took to Twitter to report a fire broke out on the second floor of a building, went into the walls, and added crews were able to extinguish it.
Severe storms moved into the area just before 3 p.m. packing lightning, hail, and high winds. A severe thunderstorm watch for the region remains in effect until 10 p.m.
