DALE CITY, Va. – Congressman Gerry Connolly was the recipient of the 2013 Public Service Award at the Dale City Multicultural Achievement Awards Banquet held recently in Springfield.

“I am honored to receive the 2013 Public Service Award from Dale City Christian Church, a congregation I know well and have worshiped with often,” Connolly said. “Pastor Patrick Thomas and his congregation are true community servants and this award has great meaning for me coming from a congregation that is so active and involved.”

The Dale City Christian Church began presenting the award in 1984 to recognize those who make substantial contributions to the Dale City community and provide positive leadership examples to area youth. In its 19th year, the annual banquet honoring graduating high school students and local leaders is a community institution.

Connolly began represented Dale City in the U.S. House of Representatives in January 2009, and he has been very involved in the community. In 2010, Connolly donated a new computer lab to the Dale City Hylton Boys and Girls Club. He is an annual participant in the Dale City Fourth of July Parade and sponsors a youth baseball team for Dale City Little League. In 2012, Connolly secured long-awaited federal line of duty death benefits for the family of a fallen Dale City volunteer firefighter. He has advocated for and won significant transportation investments for area roads and transit agencies and brought federal education funding to neighborhood schools.
