We’re under a tornado watch this evening as gusty winds are expected to move across the Washington region as part of a mean line of thunderstorms moving east.
Prince William, Stafford, and jurisdictions all along Interstate 95 are under the watch. It’s part of a sea of color that showed up on a National Weather Service warning map for the area just before 7 p.m.
The tornado watch remains in effect until 2 a.m. Thursday, and comes after an unusually warm day across the region. Many places saw temperatures in the 70s — a far cry from the 20 degree weather felt here last week.
As the storms move our way, we’re told to expect high winds — gusts up to 45 mph, and heavy rain — up to two inches possible, the weather service stated.
We’ll have breaking storm updates right here on Potomac Local News as they happen.
