Update: Broken Water Pump Causes Stir Hylton Center

UPDATE 

The Hylton Center late Saturday afternoon noted the cause of Saturday morning commotion at the performing arts center was actually a malfunctioning water pump.

The malfunction was not the furnace but in a water pump. Thanks to the good response from the fire department, Hylton staff, and George Mason University facilities, there was no damage beyond the malfunctioning pump and no impact on operations, and the building is open for business.

MANASSAS, Va. — Prince William fire crews were called to the Hylton Performing Arts Center this morning.

Asst. Chief Curtis Brodie said a malfunctioning furnace was the cause for the fire response to be destination building just outside Manassas. Initial reports indicated the building filled with smoke before 911 was called.

The music hall is a staple for holiday themed entertainment. Tonight, the Manassas Chorale is expected to take the stage for two shows – one at 5 p.m. and a second at 8 p.m.

No injuries were reported with the malfunctioning furnace.
