Am I grateful on this Thanksgiving? You bet.
Very few people I know get to wake up each morning and bring the news to the place where they grew up; to the people that helped shaped him; and to the places I know by heart but never tire of visiting.
I’m grateful to live in the community that I cover, and am thankful to have met so many volunteers, leaders of local organizations, and pioneers in local business to help them find new ways of connecting them with our readers.
I must thank my family, starting with my wife Jocelyn who has more patience and understanding than anyone I know. Long days and nights are commonplace for anyone who starts a business, but the news never stops – and that means I don’t either.
Also in the family is Chief Photographer Mary Davidson who has been with us since the start, documenting life in Virginia’s Potomac Communities through her camera lens. Together, we’ve worked side by side to bring you stories of joyful reunions, heartbreaking defeat, and monumental moments that have helped to shape and change life in our community. We are a family-run business.
I also work with the most dedicated group of community writers one could ask for. They all live and work right here. They know the issues, what questions to ask, and are just as dedicated to their hometown as I am. It’s because of these writers we are able to carryout our mission of shining light into dark spaces, and to give you local news coverage in Prince William and Stafford counties you won’t find anywhere else.
I am also grateful for you, our readers. For nearly three years you’ve helped grow PotomacLocal.com into the hometown community news source it has become. You’ve engaged us and told us how we’re doing, let us know what is news to you, and understood our mission of putting “authentically local” back into local news.
You’ve asked us, and we’re going to continue to grow our community news website and cover more of the news and events that are important to you. And we’re going to do it the same way it’s always been done – by continuing to build relationships with our leaders, organizations, and businesses in our community to get the answers our readers deserve. In return, I ask that you make PotomacLocal.com your homepage, sign up for our daily Email Subscription, and like us on Facebook and Twitter so you’ll never miss a beat from your hometown news source.
It’s called trust, and I’m working to earn yours every day.
I wish Happy Thanksgiving to you, to your friends, and to your family.
