FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — The police officer who shot and killed a Woodbridge man during a shootout near Mount Vernon will remain on the force.
Fairfax County police in a statement on Friday noted the police veteran will was not in the wrong:
Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Raymond F. Morrogh has informed Colonel David M. Rohrer, Chief of Police, that in his legal opinion the officer who fired his weapon in this incident did so justifiably in fact and law. No charges will be filed against the involved officer, PFC Edward Carpenter. PFC Carpenter has been with the department seven years and is currently assigned to the Mount Vernon District Station.
