Woodbridge H.S. Asked to Reconsider Parade Route

LAKE RIDGE, Va. — Despite rumors, Virginia transportation officials did not order a stop to the annual Woodbridge Senior High School Homecoming Parade.

The community event draws a large crowd of students, school staff, and neighbors in the Lake Ridge area, but it can also mean traffic headaches for drivers using a portion of the parade route on and around Old Bridge Road – a popular commuter thoroughfare.

According to Virginia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Joan Morris, the transportation agency called the school several months ago to see if parade organizers would consider a new route for the parade.

VDOT is still working with the school on an appropriate route for the event, and has not denied a permit needed to hold the parade, according to Morris.

“I am optimistic that the parade will go on, it is just a matter of partnership and coordination,” a representative from VDOT stated in an email.

Woodbridge Senior High School today posted a message to their Twitter account thanking those who have voiced concerns about the parade route, and noted Principal David Huckestien will meet with Prince William Occoquan District Supervisor Mike May to discuss their options for the parade.

The school will hold its Homecoming Football Game Friday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m., and a Homecoming Dance for students will be held the following night.

We’ll bring you any new information when we get it.
