Monday morning’s rush hour could be a bit hairy due to ice, and transportation officials have asked commuters to delay their trips if they can.
The Virginia Department of Transportation asked drivers to wait until after 10 a.m. to make their trek into work on Monday, or telework if they can, as freezing rain was forecasted to creep into the region overnight.
“About 770 trucks are patrolling roads in Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties, continuously treating icy spots such as ramps, bridges, elevated surfaces and other problem areas,” said VDOT spokeswoman Joan Morris.
The National Weather Service issued a freezing advisory for the Washington Metropolitan Area until 6 a.m. Monday. Temperatures were not expected to creep out the lower 30s during the morning rush hour.
If drivers must hit the road before 10 a.m., they’re asked to leave themselves a more time to get to where they’re going, according to VDOT.
