Stafford, Va. — One man faces charges in connection to a series of burglaries at churches in Stafford County, and some of the stolen items were found in Dumfries.
Detectives in Stafford developed the identify of a suspect thought to be connected to burglaries at the Ebenezer United Methodist, Ramoth Baptist, and North Stafford Church of Christ. On Wednesday, investigators went to an abandoned home on Harris Lane in Stafford where the suspect was believed to be staying and found the suspect had been living in a shed on the property, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
Inside the shed, investigators found items that had been reported stolen from the churches, and when sheriff’s deputies found the suspect and questioned him about the items the suspect fled on foot, said Kennedy.
Deputies caught up with the suspect and arrested him.
On Thursday, authorities executed a search warrant at a home in Dumfries where detectives learned more stolen items would be located, and there they found additional items linked to the church burglaries, said Kennedy. Other property that had been reported stolen in Stafford was also found the house and investigation continues.
Christopher Stevens, 24, is charged with breaking and entering, grand larceny, obstruction of justice, unlawful entry and with theft services, said Kennedy.
