North Stafford, Va. — Stafford County officials announced a new class now being offered at Quantico Corporate Center, the first of what is hoped to be many to come, they said.
The University of Mary Washington will offer a Project Management Professional (PMP)® Certification Exam Preparation Course this fall as one of the first of what is hoped to be many courses offered at Stafford’s Research and Technology Park.
In October 2009, officials with Stafford County, George Mason University, the University of Mary Washington, Germanna Community College and MTCSC (now Man Tech International) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to begin to explore a research and technology center near the Quantico Marine Corps Base. The vision for the center is to create an atmosphere where business and technology could unite. The eventual park is planned to foster research and technology development, provide professional training and certification programs for the local labor force, and offer graduate-level degrees, while also including Stafford high school students. The overarching goal of the facility is to provide services and training to readily prepare current and future Stafford workers, advance the existing business and economic base in Stafford, expand educational opportunities, provide workforce development opportunities, spur job growth, and attract research grants.
