Lake Ridge, Va. — On the checkout counter at the ABC store in Lake Ridge, printed on a piece of receipt paper was a recipe a lot of people asked for on Friday.
Light rum, dark rum, a tablespoon of passion fruit syrup and a tablespoon of lime juice. That makes a Hurricane, a drink that many customers who came into this ABC store asked the staff how to make, and will probably enjoy this weekend.
“People are buying everything,” said Deanie, who was working at the ABC store Friday night. “It’s been busy in here since about 3 o’clock.”
There was some talk Friday about ABC stores closing early ahead of Hurricane Irene, but this one in Merchant Plaza on Old Bridge Road plans to stay open regular hours this weekend. ABC officials said Friday various stores across the state could close if conditions worsened, and urged customers via their Twitter account to call before going to the store.
The shelves at the Lake Ridge store were stocked with all of the usual staples: rum, vodka, flavored liqueurs and just about everything else one would need to sip away the storm.
