Muddy Joyride Leads to Charges

Stafford County, Va. — Authorities said one man took his Jeep joyriding on the muddy grounds of a Civil War park that’s under construction.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the park site off Brooke Road near the Stafford County Landfill about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday when they got a call about a Jeep that had become stuck in mud. The caller — driver of the Jeep — told deputies that he had been left there by his friend.

“The Jeep was so muddy they couldn’t even see the license plates, even when the deputies tried to clear if off with their hands,” said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Kennedy.

As the two continued to question the man, deputies determined the man had not been left and was indeed the driver. They also determined the man had been drinking, and drove the Jeep on the grounds of the Civil War park that is currently under construction, said Kennedy.

The driver also drove the Jeep onto a large mound of dirt near some power lines on the property and flipped the vehicle at least three times, said Kennedy. The driver was not injured.

Ryan Eilenfield, 24, of Stafford, is charged with DUI, trespassing and obstruction of justice, said Kennedy.
