Stafford’s First BRAC Meeting Planned

Stafford, Va. –– Stafford County will host the first community information meeting in the region to provide information to citizens, businesses and community stakeholders on the current Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) actions in Stafford.

The meeting will be held Thursday July 21, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Stafford Administration Center located at 1300 Courthouse Road in Stafford.

This event will allow citizens, businesses, and community stakeholders to gain first-hand information about the progress and preparations by the county and Quantico Marine Corps Base have collaboratively taken to meet the challenges of BRAC and to learn what services, resources and opportunities are available to help ease and manage upcoming BRAC-related transitions.

Presentations will be offered by industry experts from the Virginia National Defense Industrial Authority, Fredericksburg Area Association of Realtors, Northern Virginia Regional Commission and Marine Corps Base Quantico. Attendees will also get an opportunity to learn about area employment and re-employment services, education, healthcare, housing, emergency services, tourism, relocation assistance, teleworking, recreation and military family resources.

BRAC is the process the Department of Defense uses to restructure its federal installations for a more efficient and streamlined approach. In 2005, the BRAC Commission directed 2,767 people (351 military, 555 contractors and 1,752 civilians) from five military investigative and counter- intelligence agencies to co-locate at Marine Corps Base Quantico no later than September 15.
