Woodbridge, Va. –– The Potomac Nationals organization on Monday had yet to hear back from Washington Redskins quarterback, Donovan McNabb.
The Minor League Baseball team on Friday made an offer to the veteran football player, whose future with Washington’s football team has long been in question, to come play or even work out with the team.
“The response from the guys on the team has been great,” said Potomac Nationals general manager Josh Olerud. “He’s one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, so even if he just showed up and worked out with the team, or even tossed out a first pitch that would be great.”
The team will once again try to reach McNabb’s agent Tuesday about the deal offered to his client, the specifics of which have not been released. Olerud said Monday he had confirmation that McNabb’s agent is aware of the deal, but that he had not spoken with him directly.
The team offered McNabb the spot on Friday after the NFL veteran made comments in jest that maybe he would play for the Nationals baseball team if he, for some reason, would not be allowed to return to the Redskins.
Olerud admits if McNabb would come to Woodbridge, even to sign autographs, it would certainly be a draw for fans of the baseball team.
The Potomac Nationals are the Minor League affiliate for the Washington Nationals, and play at Richard G. Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge.
