Fairfax County, Va. –– The affects of this morning’s earthquake in Japan are hitting home.
Fairfax County’s urban search and rescue team has been mobilized and will head to the island nation to help authorities there deal with the aftermath of a major tsunami that struck today following the earthquake.
The task force is made up of 72 members, search and rescue canines, physicians, paramedics, structural engineers, technical rescue specialists and other support personnel.
The team was last deployed to Haiti after a massive earthquake struck that island in January 2010.
At least 300 people died this morning following the massive magnitude six earthquake, and more than 530 have been reported missing.
