Jacob Charles Glushefski – a skilled craftsman, musician and artist – died Monday in his home in Brooklyn, NY. He was 33.
Jacob, known to friends and family as “Jake”, was born in Warrenton, Va. on May 23, 1977 to Edward Glushefski and Jennifer Jones Glushefski. He was raised in Manassas, Va. and made homes in Austin, Tex. and Richmond, Va. before moving to Brooklyn in 2001. There he became part of a closely knit community in a neighborhood he loved.
Though he worked in many fields through his life, Jake found his calling as a cabinetmaker following in the footsteps of his father and paternal grandfather. His works were admired for their precision and beauty.
Jake combined his love of music and fine woodworking skills to create instruments, amplifiers and musical accessories. He spent many happy hours writing music and playing one of his many guitars. And he would never turn down the opportunity to play a pretty song.
In addition to all of his creative pursuits, Jake cared deeply for his friends and family. He thrived on encouraging people, helping people and making people laugh. His many friends and family will miss him dearly.
Jake is survived by his parents, Edward Glushefski and Jennifer Jones Glushefski; his three younger sisters, Rebekah Glushefski, Elisa Glushefski and Kathryn Glushefski; grandmothers, Anne Brienza Glushefski and Marilyn “Rosie” Petersen Jones; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Edward W. Glushefski, Marilyn Ross Jones and Charles R. Jones. His beloved cats Beaker and Button, who also survive him, provided him with an enormous amount of joy.
A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at Bull Run Unitarian Universalist Church, 9350 Main St. in Manassas, on March 5, 2011 at 4:00 p.m.
