Update 12:40 p.m.
It looks more and more like snow could fall across the Potomac Communities overnight.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Lorton and Woodbridge areas, between 9 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Residents could expect between two and five inches of snow by the time they wake up Tuesday.

Most of the wintry precipitation is expected to begin falling late tonight when temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s.

Original Post 10:40 a.m.
At 10:30 a.m. Monday in North Stafford the outdoor temperature was 59 degrees.

With readings so close to the popular 60 degree mark who wants to remember it’s still February?

Mother Nature does, and she’s got a mixed bag of precipitation coming our way tonight.

Rain, sleet and then snow is forecasted to begin falling across the area tonight.

It’ll be all rain before 1 a.m., and then sleet will start to fall accumulating to about a half inch, according to the National Weather Service.

Then, just for good measure, we’ll add in some snow showers that could affect the area before 10 a.m.

Students in Stafford and Fairfax County Public Schools were in class on Monday, as instructors were told to use the President’s Day holiday as a makeup day for earlier snow days.

Prince William County Public Schools noted today as a holiday on their calendar, and earlier this month said they could have one more snow day before they would be forced to begin making up the missed instructional time.

On Wednesday high temperatures will be about average in the 40s with lows in the upper 20s.

High temperatures on Thursday are expected to climb back into the mid 50s.
