Everyone who waited until the last minute to buy something for their Valentine called the Enchanted Florist in North Stafford on Monday, or so it seemed.

Six college students – friends of the owners’ children – were helping to load flower arrangements onto trucks and cars and deliver them.

In addition, eight floral designers inside the shop were working in what seemed like a production line to meet demand.

The popular flowers of the day were roses and tulips, and Jim Burkett hoped his wife would like hers when he have them to her.

“We’ve been married for almost a year, so I hope she likes Tulips,” he said.

The flowers were a compliment to a necklace he also bought her.Valentine’s Day meant many small businesses who put tokens of love and affection on sale were cashing in with cupid.

At the nearby Winning Image Salon and Day Spa, Terry Caulfers bought his wife a day at the salon.

“It’s relaxing, nobody can turn down a massage,” said Caulfers. “She is going to love it.”

Many looking for a last minute Valentine’s Day gift choose the spa’s $129 Valentine’s Day package, which included a 45-minute facial, a one-hour massage and a scalp massage.

Dawn Gibson of Stafford was treated to a sugar scrub by her husband. It’s an exfoliating treatment for the body.

“It was so relaxing, and he was so nice to get it for me,” said Gibson while kissing her husband of four months.

Gift cards were also a popular item today at the spa, giving some option of getting their Valentine’s Day pampering later in the year.

At the florist, owner Marc Bugee said they would finish up the day’s work by 10 p.m.

They expect to get busy again on Mother’s Day – their second busiest day of the year.
