Dumfries, Va. –– Five families are homeless this morning after a fire broke out at two condo units in Dumfries.
Fire and Rescue crews were called to 17050 Capri Lane, off Pine Bluff Drive and U.S. 1 just before midnight.
Eight adults and three children were displaced from the homes, said Prince William County Fire and Rescue Department spokesman Joseph Robertson.
There have been no reports of injuries.
On the sidewalk outside the two charred condo units was blackened and burned furniture, melted plastic and the remnants of what once was an extensive CD collection.
Matthew McNeill watched in awe Sunday night as the flames damage the homes.
“I volunteered as a fire fighter for six years and I was still surprised to see what happened here last night,” said McNeill.
He along with another neighbor were standing outside the burned out homes to make sure no one went inside and looted them, he said.
The fire caused $200,000 in property damage, and the cause of the blaze was ruled accidental.
