Volunteers collect 1,180 pounds of trash

Woodbridge, Va. –– A string of volunteers showed up to clean up the winter shelter on Potomac Mills Road.

Volunteers spent the morning picking up trash consisting of glass bottles, cans, and other recyclables from the wooded directly behind the shelter, including a heavily littered creek bed.

A total of 31 volunteer hours were spent removing 1,180 pounds of trash from around the shelter.

Dale City Civic Association and its Community Revitalization and Beautification Committee, along with volunteers from Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition, Prince William Soil and Water Conservation District, Prince William Clean Community Council as well as staff from the offices of Prince William Supervisor John Jenkins, D – Neabsco  and Chairman Corey A. Stewart’s, R-At large.

The winter shelter was established as a 30-bed shelter for single men and women to protect them from hypothermia.

Waste collected by the numbers:

Recyclables:    520 lbs

Trash:              660 lbs

Total:              1,180 lbs
