Quantico, Va. –– It’s going to get loud near the Quantico Marine Corps Base this week.

On Wednesday and Thursday, residents who live near the base may have their windows rattled as explosives will be set off on base as part of munitions training.

Training will take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday, and 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday, according to a press release.

But that doesn’t mean that those are the only times explosions may be heard or felt.

Base officials said the training could take place outside of those designated hours between now and Sunday.

Overcast weather conditions can also increase noise and vibrations.

One of the closest munitions ranges to developed areas sits near Boswells Corner in Stafford County.

Base officials in recent months have protested a plan by Stafford County to develop the area on U.S. 1, near the back entrance of the Marine Corps Base, into a mixed-use complex that would attract businesses and homes.

They say the county should consider other locations to develop because of the frequent noise produced by the munitions ranges.
