Stafford, Va. –– It appears school officials in Stafford County have selected who will be the next superintendent of the county’s public school system.
The county’s school board will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. Monday announce who the new superintendent will be, said Stafford schools spokeswoman Valerie Cottongim.
That meeting will take place at the school board headquarters on Stafford Avenue in Stafford.
A portion of the meeting will held in closed session, and the new controller will be named afterwards.
The announcement about the special meeting was made Monday night while the school board was in session.
The school board in 2006 voted to terminate its contract with then superintendent Jean S. Murray.
The school system is currently being overseen by Interim Superintendent Dr. Andre Nougaret.
Prospective candidates for the superintendent position were interviewed through Sept. 30.
The person who is chosen for the job will oversee 2,069 faculty and staff members and 26,660 students.
The Stafford County Public School system boasts 17 elementary, eight middle and five high schools, and operates on a $2.6 million budget, according to the school division’s Web site.
