FREDERICKSBURG — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will continue to mill and pave various sections of Interstate 95 until Friday, June 28.
Construction will move north from Spotsylvania County to Stafford County with overnight lane closures scheduled for this week.
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — In order to pay for increased operations costs, the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) will be increasing fare prices by an average of 3% starting July 1.
“VRE works hard to control internal costs but there are some costs over which we have little control and that rise every year. A good example is track access fees. Because we do not own the tracks on which our trains run, we need to pay CSX and Norfolk Southern to run on them. We recognize the potential impact a fare increase has on household budgets, which is why we strive to control costs, keep increases modest, and avoid annual fare increases,” said VRE spokeswoman Karen Finucan Clarkson.
WOODBRIDGE — Apparently, people liked riding to work on a double-decker bus.
In April, OmniRide temporarily added a double-decker bus to its fleet and conducted an eight-day test run on several different routes, including a route from Gainesville to Washington D.C.

STAFFORD — Many of Stafford County’s two-lane rural roads date back 70 years, with narrow lanes, no shoulders, and sharp curves.
Now county residents will have the opportunity to authorize the Stafford Board of Supervisors to borrow cash to fix some of them. Supervisors voted to move forward with a plan to hold a referendum on the November ballot that, if approved, would allow officials to borrow up to $70 million for transportation fixes.
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — The new Thomasson Barn Road connecting Hornbaker Road and Discovery Boulevard is now open.
Brentsville District Supervisor Jeanine Lawson said, “It is good to see Thomasson Barn Road come to fruition on time and budget. With the addition of new office space, and the growing popularity of 2 Silos-Farm Brew Live, traffic in this portion of Innovation Park is increasing daily. By opening a second access point here, the county ensures that traffic will move smoothly as additional businesses locate here.”
FREDERICKSBURG — Officials have decided to renew talks about an outer connector road, an Interstate 95 bypass that would help alleviate congestion.
During a meeting of the Fredericksburg Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO), officials set plans for new discussions regarding the long-planned project that dates back to the 1990s.
MANASSAS — The Broad Run Virginia Railway Express station is about to undergo a radical change.
VRE officials this week will be asked to support a plan to build a 600-space commuter parking lot on the north side of the tracks at the commuter rail station located at the Manassas Regional Airport.
STAFFORD COUNTY — New concrete beams are in place and a concrete bridge deck is ready to be poured.
