DALE CITY – (Press Release) Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) structure and bridge crews continue work to replace a large stormwater pipe on Princedale Drive that failed after heavy rains on July 4, causing a sinkhole. The road is expected to remain closed between Saddler Lane and Roundtree Drive for four more weeks, weather permitting.
The 84-inch diameter galvanized metal pipe had been conveying water for a tributary of Neabsco Creek. After several inches of rain in a short period of time on July 4, the force of the water pushed the pipe into the creek, causing the asphalt above to fail.
WOODBRIDGE — OmniRide’s phone systems are not working today.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — (Press Release) On Wednesday, July 24 at 5:15 p.m., investigators from the Crash Unit responded to the 12500 block of Purcell Road to investigate a single motorcycle crash.
The initial investigation revealed that the rider of a 2002 Harley Davidson was traveling northbound on Purcell when he attempted to navigate out of a turn on Purcell Road.
A section of Courthouse Road near Interstate 95 will be closed next weekend to allow crews to open a new intersection with Austin Ridge Drive, and to activate two new traffic signals.
WOODBRIDGE — The mission at Virginia Railway Express is clear: Get more people onto its trains.
Ridership on Virginia’s only commuter railroad remains flat over the past eight years, and that has officials inside VRE ringing alarm bells.
STAFFORD — A group of Stafford County high school students is pushing for change after their friend and fellow classmate Helen Wang died in a car crash on the day of her 17th birthday. She was hit and killed while trying to turn onto Kellogg Mill Road, a narrow two-lane road that winds through the heart of the county.
They call themselves Changing Stafford’s Roads [CSR]. They’re credited with convincing local leaders to take action, putting forward to voters a possible $50 million road bond referendum to improve conditions on some of the county’s worst thoroughfares.
FREDERICKSBURG — Drivers who use Interstate 95 at Occoquan have it the worst.
New data from the Virginia Department of Transportation marks the notorious bottleneck at the Occoquan River, where eight lanes reduce to six, as the most congested portion of I-95 in Virginia.
FREDERICKSBURG — When it comes to easing traffic congestion around Fredericksburg, city officials are looking to high-speed rail as a possible solution.
A state high-speed rail study currently underway is looking at three possible locations for the rails in and around the Fredericksburg area. One alternative would result in a new two-track freight bypass going to the east of Fredericksburg; while another one alternative would add a third track through Fredericksburg on the east side of the existing tracks. A third would be to not add any tracks through Fredericksburg but would include various improvements to crossings, signals, and safety systems.
