OmniRide today announced several changes to help protect the public and OmniRide employees from the coronavirus outbreak.

OmniRide’s Local and Metro Express services are now providing users riders free of charge. These buses provide service between Manassas and western Prince Willliam County to the Tysons Corner Metro station, and from Woodbridge to the Franconia-Springfield Metro station.

Commuters should take note of some upcoming changes in the modes of transportation that get them to and from work.

Virginia Railway Express tells us that an increasing number of area businesses and government agencies are encouraging or mandating telework for its employees to help contain the spread of the Chinese coronavirus.

There will be one less traffic light in Fredericksburg.

The traffic signal at the intersection of George and Prince Edward Streets, near Hurkamp Park in Downtown Fredericksburg, stopped working properly earlier this year, city officials tell us.

Manassas Park sees a new library, and now a new parking garage for the city’s envisioned downtown development.

A new garage would provide at least 500 more parking spaces needed at the Manassas Park VRE station. The new spaces would be in addition to the 600 spaces already in use at the station on weekdays.

Crews are putting the finishing touches today on a stormwater pipe replacement near Manassas Park.

A section of the new pipe is being installed along Old Centreville Road between Spruce Street Rugby Road. For the past few days, the Virginia Department of Transportation has had temporary closures in place during the road work.

Virginia State Police tell us it is investigating a two-vehicle crash near Gainesville in Prince.

The crash occurred on February 19, 2020, at 9:15 a.m. on Route 29 (Lee Highway) at Route 215 (Vint Hill Road) in Fauquier County.

Now there’s a way to use the tolled lanes on Virginia’s highways without having to use an E-ZPass.

A new app that can be downloaded to your cell phone will allow you to register your license plate, and then pay to use toll lanes like the E-ZPass Express Lanes on Interstate 95, 395, and 495. An E-ZPass or E-ZPass Flex transponder is not required.
