The effort to widen Route 1 in Woodbridge continues despite the global coronavirus pandemic.

The Virginia Department of Transportation reports that concrete abutments are in place or a new bridge that will carry Route 1 traffic over the Maurmsco Creek.


Woodbridge residents could soon see changes to the color and smell of their water as crews work to flush the system. 

The Prince William County Service Authority will be conducting its annual spring flushing of the water distribution system from late March through mid-June. This is a routine maintenance process and is not related to the Coronavirus pandemic.

It’s Virginia Restaurant Takeout Week, and restaurants in the state are reeling due to lack of business following the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Gov. Ralph Northam has limited the number of people who can be inside a restaurant at one time to 10 people, so customers this week are encouraged to call ahead to their favorite restaurant and order out.


Two former Woodbridge residents, and six others on a humanitarian mission to Honduras, have no means of returning home to the U.S.

The two are members of an eight-person mission team was due to fly home Tuesday, March 17, 2020. But that flight was canceled after Houndoruan officials closed the country’s borders due to coronavirus.

A shopping destination for people who live across the Mid-Atlantic temporarily closed today.

Potomac Mills mall in Woodbridge announced it would close today at 7 p.m. and would remain shuttered at least through March 27 29.


Schools

Virginia First Lady Pamela Northam recently visited Marumsco Hills Elementary School to show her support of early childhood programs. Northam visited the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) classroom of Andrea Gillespie and read the book, “Are You Ready for Spring?” to the students.

“We are so thrilled to be here in Prince William County,” Northam said. “We’re so appreciative of the innovative work you all are doing combining local, state and federal funding to do this incredible work for early childhood. We really want to see the rest of the Commonwealth doing a great job as they are doing here in this school we saw today.”


Police were called to the Kensington Place Apartments, in the 2200 block of York Drive in Woodbridge on Saturday, March 7 at 6:57 a.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance. 

When officers arrived, they found evidence of an altercation that happened outside one of the apartments. However, the officers didn’t see anyone in the area.


Senator Tim Kaine will be in Woodbridge on Monday hosting a roundtable meeting where he is expected to share what he learned about hurricane and earthquake recovery efforts during his visit to San Juan, Puerto Rico.

In San Juan, Kaine viewed repairs and remaining infrastructure needs following Hurricanes Irma and Maria and was briefed on disaster relief efforts following the devastating earthquakes that have left many Puerto Ricans without safe housing.
