WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A new initiative just announced late Sunday night will target parking violators at Woodbridge’s Horner Road Commuter Lot.

The increased enforcement will be rolled out in two phases: the first starting Monday, June 18, through Friday, June 29, when drivers who park anywhere other than a designated parking space will receive a warning from Virginia State or local police. During second phase staring Monday, July 2, illegally parked cars will be ticketed, said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Mia Amado won the Cappie for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Helen Keller in “The Miracle Worker.” The Cappies Gala was held Sunday June 10 at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Mia is a sophomore theatre student in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts Program at Woodbridge Senior High School.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Women in Prince William County will soon have more access to Breast Cancer screenings.

A $750,000 grant from the Potomac Health Foundation will go to fund a mammography van that will visit area businesses to provide screenings and care for insured employees. Afterward, patients can learn where to go for any follow-up diagnoses and treatment.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Over the past weekend, I attended four Prince William area high school graduations in 24 hours. The events honored 2500 graduating Woodbridge area seniors from Woodbridge Senior High School, Gar-Field Senior High School, Forest Park High School, and Freedom High School.

LAKE RIDGE, Va. — Police have a mystery on their hands in Lake Ridge after a man was found unconscious on his doorstep.

Officers were called at 3:13 a.m. Sunday to the 12800 block of Tumbling Brook Lane in Lake Ridge, inside the Rolling Brook apartment complex, after a 29-year-old man came home and began knocking loudly at his front door. Police did not say if the man had become locked out of his home. But another occupant then opened the door and found the man lying unconscious, and then called 911, according to police.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — The Virginia Special Olympics torch will pass through Prince William County this afternoon, escorted by the county’s police department.

The annual running of the torch through Woodbridge on its way to Richmond for this weekend’s games will start at 2 p.m., as runners cross into Woodbridge from Fairfax County.
