Zandra’s Taqueria once again invited the community to join in the “Warm Up the Community” clothing drive, held in conjunction with the Greater Manassas Christmas Parade. The eatery collected more than 50 coats, along with numerous scarves, hats, socks and gloves during the drive, which is now in its third year.

Zandra’s donated the clothing, along with proceeds from its sales of hot chocolate and coffee during the event, to SERVE, a program of Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS). NVFS is the largest private, nonprofit human service organization in Northern Virginia, and addresses the challenges of systemic poverty on the community.

January 1 is the official anniversary of our Battle Standard 142 Navy Strength Gin being sold in VA ABC stores. We started 2016 with 100 stores selling our gin, and we have grown to distribution in 139 stores throughout the Commonwealth.  To support our sales, we have conducted 307 in-store tastings and have provided tastings to 7,960 people during the year at these events.  In 2017, we plan on continuing these tastings each month so keep your eyes out for one of our team members who will also be sampling our Bare Knuckle American Wheat Whiskey in many of the same stores.

In December, we were able to get new placements at the following Virginia restaurants:  Sea Pearl, Vola’s, Fish Market, Sweetfire Donnas, Field & Main, Sense of Thai, Blu 1681, Captain Gregory’s, and Okra’s Cajun Creole.  We will be conducting tastings in 15 VA ABC stores throughout the state in January.

The full-service restaurant relocated to the city after opening in Loudoun County 10 years ago. Owner Kumar Iyer said his fans have followed him to Manassas but were sad to see him close his old restaurant.

"I announced that we're closing on Facebook and we got 400 comments," said Iyer. "They did not want to see us go."

Don’t let the name fool you—Day of the Dead is not a morbid holiday, explains Miguel Pires, owner of Zandra’s Taqueria in Old Town Manassas. Rather, the holiday is a festive celebration honoring loved ones that are no longer with us. Family and friends come together for feasts, dancing and to make offerings to the deceased, such as sugar skulls and service in the form of cleaning and decorating grave sites. Pires says that it is in this celebratory spirit that he invites the community to gather at his taqueria and bar for a Day of the Dead charity event.

From 5 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 2, Zandra’s will be collecting food and raising money for SERVE, a program of Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS), the largest private, nonprofit human service organization in Northern Virginia. NVFS addresses the challenges of systemic poverty on the community.
