Democrats on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors failed to back their chief of police after he voiced concerns about a bill that would make it impossible for his officers to stop cars that do not have a working head, tail, or brake lights.
Citing safety concerns for drivers and pedestrians, Acting Police Chief Col. Jarad Phelps on Tuesday told Supervisors that if the bill signed into law by Gov. Ralph Northam (D), the fact that a vehicle doesn’t have working lights would no longer be a good enough reason to stop a driver.

Three seats are up for grabs on the Dumfries Town Council on November 3, and Ebony Lofton, the current President of the South Cove Homeowners Association, is running a write-in campaign to win one.
Potomac Local News asked Lofton about why she is running and what she believes she can bring to the table.

Del. Elizabeth Guzmán (D-Fauquier, Dale City) said she is no stranger to the struggles of low-paying jobs. Guzmán said she immigrated to the United States from Peru as a single mother and worked multiple minimum wage jobs just to be able to pay rent and care for her daughter.
Guzmán has a mission to secure better financial benefits for minimum wage workers, but she said it’s not going as planned.

A recent poll finds Virginia voters strongly support police reform and nearly half of respondents say Joe Biden would handle the pandemic better than President Donald Trump.
The Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University released the poll Sept. 29 following a poll earlier that month which found Biden is leading Trump by 5 points among the state’s likely voters.
