The region is under threat from a late winter storm, and drivers are urged to delay their trips Friday morning. 

States the Virginia Department of Transportation in a press release: 

The Virginia Department of Transportation asks drivers to plan for a late winter storm, expected to impact traffic tonight through Friday morning with up to several inches of snow. If possible, delay trips until after the a.m. rush hour Friday to avoid potential slushy road conditions.

The first middle school to open in Dale City will have a new name.

Mills Godwin Middle School, named after a first-term Democratic Virginia Governor heralded for his work in the community college system, will be renamed George Hampton Middle School in the fall.

A new elementary school being built about three miles away will be named after Kyle R. Wilson, who at the age of 24 was the first career firefighter in Prince William County to die in the line of duty. Wilson went into a burning house on Marsh Overlook Court on April 16, 2007 to rescue people whom he thought to be inside. No one was inside the house, and Wilson became trapped and died.

Petula Metzler is expected to be appointed the next General District Court Judge in Prince William County.

The Virginia House of Delegates Judge Selection Subcommittee is expetced to convene Monday to interview new judges. Metzler is expected to be confirmed as early as Thursday next week.

"The General District Court is most the most prominent face of the judicial system that most citizens in Prince William will see," said Delegate Jackson Miller (R-Manassas), who sits on the House Courts Committee and will participate in Monday's interview process. "Metzler has the right background, and demeanor, and will make a great judge."

The ribbon was cut Wednesday at a new Regional Center for Workforce Education and Training.

Hundreds came to open the $29 million facilities on Northern Virginia Community College's Woodbridge Campus. The center caters to working adults with non-degree programs that focus on training and career development.

The center will offer courses in leadership, accounting a bookkeeping, IT skills, healthcare and dental, construction and building, and green technology just to name a few.

Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton trounced Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in Virginia’s Democratic presidential primary election on Tuesday, and billionaire businessman Donald Trump narrowly defeated Florida Sen. Marco Rubio in the Republican contest.

With almost all precincts reporting, Clinton received more than 64 percent of the 780,000 votes cast in the Democratic primary. Sanders got 35 percent.

More than 1 million Virginians voted in the Republican primary. Trump got nearly 35 percent of the votes, followed by Rubio at almost 32 percent, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz at about 17 percent and Ohio Gov. John Kasich at about 9 percent.

Funeral services were held today for Prince William police Officer Ashley Guindon.

guindonlargeThe 28-year-old was honored at a funeral service at Hylton Memorial Chapel in Woodbridge that was scheduled to begin at noon. Thousands, from community members, to members of police and fire and rescue from around the Washington, D.C. region and out of state attended.

The 28-year-old was shot and killed Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, while responding to a call for a domestic disturbance at a single family home in Dale City. Two veteran Prince William police officers were also shot and are expected to recover.

A man donned in a red wig robbed a BB&T Bank in Lake Rigde today. 

Says police: 

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on March 1, 2016, Prince William County Police responded to BB&T Bank (12435 Dillingham Sq, Woodbridge, Va. 22192) for a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred. According to witness statements, a male subject entered the bank, jumped the counter while pointing a knife at a teller, and demanded cash. The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash in a white grocery bag, headed eastbound into the woods along Old Bridge Rd.

The decision to close the Potomac Mills Bonefish Grill was a difficult one based on business circumstances.  

We’re offering as many employees as possible the opportunity to transfer to open positions at nearby affiliated restaurants. Employees who do not transfer will receive a severance package.
